Family Support Programme
The aim of this service is to provide a safe, supportive, listening and empowering service to anyone affected by a loved one’s addiction. The family support group meets every Wednesday evening here in DROP. Family support encourages people who have a common problem of either living with or been emotionally attached to someone in addiction to come together regularly and support one another. The goal is to create a safe, secure and confidential environment which encourages individuals to bring out into the open some of the many hidden emotions which are affecting them.
Instinctively, most parents dealing with a loved one who is at any stage in the addiction process will firstly try and help the individual. They will look for help for their loved one to get them into treatment and most often blame themselves believing that they have done something wrong. It is rare that they will look for help for themselves to deal with how they have suffered emotionally, physically, psychologically, financially and socially. Through group support they realise that they are not alone and can get support from others by listening to how they too have worked through difficult situations.
Supports available through this service are:
- Group support
- One to one counselling
- Holistic therapies (to aid with stress management)
