D.R.O.P was founded in 1998 by people who wanted to create a practical, flexible and accessible response to anyone in the area who was suffering from the effects of drugs.

DROP’s founders came from the local voluntary, statutory or community sector, and believed that whilst it is vital to support drug users to get out of the trap of addiction, there are other groups of people who are not using drugs, but who suffer from the effects of drugs in their families, or in their community, and these people also needed support and solutions. 

So the Project was set up to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities affected by drug and drug-related issues.

The purpose of the Board is to direct DROP's affairs. The Board decide upon the policy of the Organisation and the direction it may take. The day to day management of the Association is delegated to the manager and her team. The officers provide reports which inform the decisions of the Board. The Board regularly reviews progress on the strategic plan.
